Overview — Why Ledger?
Ledger hardware wallets like the Ledger Nano X and Ledger Nano S Plus combine a specialized Secure Element chip with Ledger’s proprietary BOLOS operating system to isolate private keys and secure transactions. Whether you plan to manage cryptocurrencies using Ledger Live, explore DeFi Integration, store NFTs with NFT Support, or leverage Multi-Currency Support, Ledger devices provide a hardware-first approach to security.
Quick Start — Step-by-step
- Unbox & check security: Ensure the package seal is intact. Only proceed if packaging is genuine.
- Download Ledger Live: Install Ledger Live from the official site. Ledger Live is the desktop and mobile companion for both Ledger Nano X and Ledger Nano S Plus.
- Connect your device: Use the included cable (or Bluetooth for the Ledger Nano X) to connect and power the device. If using Bluetooth connectivity, confirm pairing via the device screen.
- Create or restore: Choose to create a new wallet (generate a new Recovery Phrase) or restore from an existing recovery phrase. Write the recovery phrase down offline — never store it in plain text on a computer or cloud service.
- Install apps and update firmware: Through Ledger Live, add the coin apps you need and apply any available Firmware Updates. Firmware updates ensure BOLOS and the Secure Element remain resilient against attacks.
Tip: When prompted about recovery options, consider enabling Ledger Recover if you want a recoverable backup solution. Ledger Recover is an optional service that helps restore access to assets while still protecting your recovery phrase using split-key techniques — read details in Ledger Live before enabling.
